About

Department of Zoology is one of the leading departments of Berhampore Girls’ College. The subject “Zoology” has high demand as reflected in the large number of applications received from the students for admission to the department in each year and the choice of the subject by the students under CBCS course curriculum. The performance of the students in University examination is very good with University rankings including University topper. In each year, most of the passed out students get entry into different State and Central universities of India for their higher study.

Modern Zoology has undergone a radical ecdysis and has emerged out into a new conceptual entity, both in contents and implications. Zoology is no longer a mere plethora of disjointed morphological descriptions. It is now a field of coherently integrated and biochemically analyzable entity. Biological diversities have become resolved into a common theme of endless activity of the wonder molecule of DNA. Teaching of Zoology should not only be modern but also be more useful and meaningful for the welfare of human in particular and the earth as a whole. A student of Zoology must learn the subject as a scientist. It is necessary to see that teaching of Zoology creates in the mind of the student a sense of enthusiasm, inquisitiveness and problem solving attitude.

Our academic programs have been designed in such a way as to train our faculty members, staffs, students and others for their skill development and more motivation to work for the application of this subject for human welfare. Emphasis has been given on the better understanding of modern powerful biotechnological tools & techniques and the transfer of technology from lab to land. The Academic programs of the department include Academic lecturers, Practical demonstrations, Hands on training programs, Workshops, Publication of Wall Magazines, Departmental Excursions and Field Study, Visit to research laboratories and Outreach programs.
