Since inception of Berhampore Girls’ College (1946), Economics was offered as a subject under the umbrella of Department of Civics. The department gained its independent status since 1960 as it started functioning as Department of Economics by offering economics as a general subject. However, a long standing vision of this department was to introduce honours course. Ultimately, the Honours Course was introduced in the year 1996. Since then the department has successfully running both Honours and General courses. At present, the department offers both B.A and B.Sc. courses. The strong relationship among the faculty members and the students is the main driving force of the department. Apart from study, students of this department are also vigorously involved in extra- curricular and co-curricular activities. The alumni of the department are well established and they are settled in different parts of India and abroad.
