- In accordance with the syllabus, a fundamental stress is given on the acquisition of literary skill and development of

theoretical approach to texts is encouraged at this level only.

Programme Specific Outcome of B.A. Honours:
- The Department of History is carrying out teaching and learning process in such a way that the syllabus is completed within
the stipulated period. The existing nature and scope of the syllabus in history is helping students to get a broad overview
of the chronological span ranging from the prehistoric to the contemporary era with a focus on South Asia with special
importance India. Different aspects of East Asia, West Asia and Europe and also United States America are being taught and
students are acquainted with these regions of the world
- Historical trends, historiography and historical debates are comprehensibly taught to the students who are becoming quite
able to grasp the same after completion of programme.
- As the University of Kalyani designs the syllabus, the Department of History of our College has no direct role in it. But
one of the faculty of the Department of History always remains the Member of the Undergraduate Board of Studies in History
of the University of Kalyani. The Member of the UG BOS plays an active role in its meetings and proceedings. The Undergraduate
Board of Studies in History frequently designs and redesigns syllabus keeping in mind the growing needs of the students to
take NET/SET or other academic competitive examinations like, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), School Service Commission (SSC),
and other competitive examinations like the Civil Service Examinations.
- At present the Department does not formulate any programme of Project Paper for the students. But previously the Department
used to arrange for the Project Paper. However, the students are always made aware of independent research and their future
research activities.
- The Department has not generated any mechanism of publication of the Project Paper.
- As the present world is the world of Internet, Soft skill is now indispensable for each and everybody. It is quite natural
that the Department always takes a proactive role in orienting the students for soft skill by arranging training programmes
in different fields including online email, appearing in the examinations and internal assessments, submission of answer
scripts, online classes and use of study materials. Besides, the Department use to motivate the students to learn the basic
and primary knowledge in computer, laptop and other electronic devises useful for academic studies. They are always made
seriously conscious of the fact that they must acquire soft skill to pursue higher studies and research. Students are familiar
with technology enabled teaching- learning process. They are also experienced in searching web-based materials for their study.
Programme Specific Outcome of M.A.:
- The Department of History has a Post Graduate Section. The syllabus of M.A. in History of the University of Kalyani is
taught to the P.G. students. The Department can select few Papers of its choice from the group of optional papers of the
main syllabus. The Department has 6 teachers including two Associate Professors, Two Assistant Professors and two SACT
teachers. Two faculty members have Ph.D. Degrees and one of them is a sole Supervisor of Ph.D. under whom two Scholars
have been awarded Ph.D. Degree. One is carrying on Ph.D. research. The prescribed syllabus is always completed within the
stipulated period each semester.
- The Department from time to time arranges Special Lectures for students. The faculty members from the Department of History,
University of Kalyani deliver special lectures in the P.G. Section of the Department. The Department of History, University
of Kalyani always extends us cooperation in different ways.
- The entire syllabus is inter-disciplinary in character and the nature and scope of the syllabus in history is helping students
to get a broad overview of science, technology and medicine, society, culture and religion, economy and trade and commerce.
Nature and scope of history, objectivity of history, interrelation between history and other disciplines, different approaches,
theories, debates and themes of history are being taught to the students. Historical trends, historiography and historical
debates are comprehensibly taught to the students who are becoming quite able to grasp the same after completion of programme.
- Special care is always taken to instil scholarly aptitude and competency in fundamental research among the students. They are
motivated to take active part in seminars, workshops, special lectures organised by the College and the Department. The
Department is providing books of both reference and text standard to the P.G. students. Books are purchased from time to
time for them.
- The Department always takes a proactive role in orienting both the U.G. and P.G. students for soft skill by arranging training
programmes in different fields including online email, appearing in the examinations and internal assessments, submission
of answer scripts, online classes and use of study materials. Besides, the Department use to motivate the students to learn

- All the course curriculums prescribed for the students at the Honours level help to create a comprehensive understanding
of theories and practices, critical and reflexive analysis and interpretations of social facts, political thoughts and
ideas, Indian constitutional system, Indian nation building process, issues of international relations, etc. All these
tend to create capabilities to assimilate knowledge to be a conscious and positive citizen who have an important role to
play in the society as well as in the nation building process.
- The programme helps to familiarize with the working of Indian state system and it also helps to pay proper attention to
the dynamics of the modern state power.

- The syllabus for every programme like B.A., BSC, Honours and program are designed by Kalyani University, Kalyani, West Bengal
following the syllabus format given by the UGC.
- Response from students are considered and discussed at different platforms by faculty.
- The response of maximum students regarding design of syllabus was found to be very good (more than 85 % students find the syllabus
satisfactory).
- The response of the Teaching staffs is also satisfactory regarding the syllabus design. According to them improvement is needed in
GE syllabus in some places.
- Teachers arranged discussion for syllabus distribution in time interval. And it is easy also to distribute the syllabus.
- Regular Staff meetings and Departmental Meetings are chaired by the HOD in which the staff discusses various issues related to
students, curricular aspect and examination.
- The response of maximum parents regarding design and review of syllabus, taken in Parents Teachers’ meet, was very good. The parents
find the syllabi relevant and job oriented.
